Description: There’s more than one way to eat an onion! This is a treasured collection of award-winning recipes beginning with the first Vidalia Onion Festival Cook-Off in 1978. The Vidalia Woman’s Club cookbook committee spent countless hours researching available resources in an effort to feature Vidalia Onion Festival Cook-Off award winning recipes and the names of the cooks who submitted them. We thought a cookbook would be a great way to preserve our community’s legacy and to raise funds for the club. Some of the recipes were found in the local library in micro-fiche files, others were recovered from back issues of The Advance at the newspaper office, and in some cases, the cookbook team tracked down former winners and did interviews. We celebrate the quote by Julia Child, “It’s hard to imagine civilization without onions.” Proceeds from the sale of our cookbook benefit local charities such as: The United Way, Boys & Girls Club, The Refuge (shelter for battered women and their children), Rachel’s House Ministries (pregnant women in crisis), Dream House (women recovering from addictions), and other charities as needs arise.
